Temperatures on this hike can be 20 degrees cooler than on the surface of the fissure.
Fort Rock State Park is about an hour away where you can see remnants of a volcano that once rose from the valley floor. It towers 325 feet above the ground and is about half a mile wide. As you walk around inside of this monument, you walk on the same ground as early American Indians who used a canoe to access what used to be an island.
